3月12日，美股三大股指大幅低开，全部下跌超6%。当地时间9点36分，标普500指数跌幅扩大至7%，触发本周第二次熔断，美股暂停交易15分钟。熔断机制是指当股指波幅达到规定的熔断点时，交易所为控制风险采取的暂停交易措施，根据标普500指数前一个交易日的收盘价，纽交所将该指数的熔断点分为三个阶段，主要目的在于防止恐慌情绪进一步放大，给市场带来更大冲击。
