Saudi-Russia Committee Recommends Deeper Oil Cuts

A producers' committee led by Saudi Arabia and Russia on Thursday recommended deepening oil-production cuts by 42% next year, according to OPEC officials, signaling the plan is likely to be later adopted by the group.

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries are meeting on Thursday in Vienna to decide whether to extend or deepen current collective production curbs of 1.2 million barrels a day. Non-OPEC allies led by Russia would then endorse the proposal Friday.

A select grouping is advising the alliance to reduce production by a further 500,000 barrels a day, the officials said.

The committee is also pushing for improved compliance from countries such as Nigeria and Iraq that have repeatedly flouted the cuts, the officials said.
