【英文夜读】Life at NUDT: An Insight into Learning and Growth_新浪财经

As a freshman at the National University of Defense Technology, I am filled with anticipation and excitement as I embark on this unique academic journey. Now a Nudter, I am a member of China's leading institution for military education and research. The campus environment, the leaders, and the opportunities all set me on the path of personal development and lifelong learning.

From the moment I set foot on campus, I was struck by the different environment. The university has a strict, military-style management system that requires us to attend classes and live on campus according to orders and regulations. This creates a focused and disciplined learning environment, which is essential for the rigorous courses and demanding academic standards.

As a new comer, I am still adjusting my pace of studying and training now. In this process of adjustment, I have felt all kinds of warmth, kindness, and encouragement, especially from my company leaders. When I was worried about folding the quilt, the political instructor would teach me step by step. When I couldn't take the prone position in the basic training, the captain would demonstrate the movements and explain the skills repeatedly. Both of them are leading experts in their fields and have set excellent examples for us. Through my contact with them, I understand that actions speak louder than words. We are also encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussions, through which I have developed a deeper understanding of military life and formed my own critical thinking skills.

My special appreciation goes to my captain, an incredible mentor in my new life, who always provides me with valuable advice and guidance. He has helped me develop a strong study routine that ensures I stay organized and on track. For example, in linear algebra and college chemistry, where I was weak, the captain arranged for top students to help me with my studies. He also advised me to spend one hour a day reviewing my notes. Through his encouragement and support, I have learned to prioritize my time effectively and focus on my weaknesses.

In addition to his role as a mentor, my captain has also been a great friend and confidant. He listens patiently when I have problems, and offers practical solutions that are tailored to my specific needs. There was a time when I felt really homesick or wanted to drop out; he was the first person I wanted to seek help from. He has a unique ability to understand what I am going through and provides the perfect advice to help me get through difficult situations.

My captain has also helped me develop a growth mindset, which has been essential in my journey of learning and development. His serious, rigorous, and realistic attitude in dealing with work and people deeply moves me. Meanwhile, he encourages me to challenge myself and take risks, knowing that I will learn from my mistakes and become stronger as a result. Through his encouragement and support, I have learned to embrace failure as a part of the learning process.

My gain in NUDT is not just from my leaders, or from studying various subjects; it's more about personal growth, which means pursuing one's lifelong development. Our university provides us with a range of resources to support our comprehensive development. There are opportunities for us to participate in extracurricular activities such as military training, various clubs, and sports events. These activities have helped me develop my skills in leadership, teamwork, and time management. In my spare time, I participate in the volleyball club and the guitar club. Volleyball makes me strong physically, and the guitar brings me relaxation and additional inspiration for life. It can be seen that, instead of a place where students are forced to learn and drill blindly, NUDT is a terrific platform where people can cultivate their personal quality, morality, and skills so that they can continue their growth throughout their life.

My first three months in NUDT have certainly broadened my horizons and provided challenges and opportunities to me. The military-style management may have overwhelmed me at first, but it's shaping me into a real soldier, thus allowing me to realize that personal growth and success require focus, discipline, and perseverance. My story of transformation and growth is just getting started!
