　　The China Green Foundation (CGF) was sponsored jointly by many social groups including interested domestic and foreign donors concerned about Chinese reforestation. In response to their interest, the Central Committee of the Communist Party and the State Council of China established CGF as a national public foundation on March 1, 1984.

　　It was registered at the Ministry of Civil Affairs and it is governed by the State Forestry Administration. Its establishment was officially announced at the first CGF council meeting on September 27,1985, with the support of Mr. Wu Lanfu and other Chinese leaders.

　　The second, third, and fourth council meetings were held in Beijing on June 13, 1990, June 8, 1995, and June 22, 1999, respectively. Mr. Wu Lanfu, Mr. Wan Li, and Mr. Li Ruihuan served as honorary chairman of the China Green Foundation in succession, and Mr. Yong Wentao, Mr. Chen Muhua, and Mr. Wang Bingqian served as its chairman in succession. The fifth council meeting of the China Green Foundation was held on June 3, 2005, Mr. Jia Qinglin, standing committee member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and chairman of the National Political Consultative Conference of China served as honorary chairman, and Mr. Wang Zhibao, member of the National Political Consultative Conference of China, and former director of the State Forestry Administration served as chairman.
