The 3rd Annual China Fund Summit 2008 will be held in March 2008 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of China’s fund industry. The past ten years witness the rapid growth of this leading economic powerhouse in the world. By the end of 2007, there are 59 fund shops in China, including 28 joint ventures with global asset managers. The number of open-end funds reached 363 with over 2 trillion outstanding shares and market value of USD $450 billion. As one of the major players on the equity market, the fund industry now holds more than 28% of the free float market capitalization, and nearly 44 million households have mutual fund accounts. 56 new funds were launched in 2007, raising capital of more than $77 billion. After the mediocre performance of 3.5% in 2005, China’s fund industry delivered the average return of 126.9% in 2006 and 128.2% in 2007.
The QDII regime, established in April 2006, allows local investors in China to invest in global markets and offshore products. China’s fund shops successfully launched 4 QDII funds in late 2007, raising $19 billion in total. There is no doubt that the QDII has become the hottest growth theme in the global financial sector. The QDII AUM of the fund industry is expected to reach more than $40 billion by the end of 2008.
While the recent turmoil originating from the credit crunch in the U.S. has brought strong financial distress worldwide, there seems to be no signs of slow down to China’s fund industry. The business environment for fund shops has improved fundamentally with the soaring stock markets since July 2005. And fund houses have improved asset quality, and achieved sustainable profitability. Many of them now are looking for global partners to form strategic alliances and foster business relationships.
The 3rd Annual China Fund Summit 2008 is the learning and networking forum where global asset managers congregate to know innovation solutions and ideas for potential cooperation and partnership in China. Bringing together Chinese policy makers, fund houses, investment professionals and mainstream media to learn and dialogue with global fund managers, the Summit helps you understand the opportunities and scope for off-shore markets and advocates to complete your roadmap to successful penetration into China’s booming capital markets.
As in the previous two summits, you will meet executives of China’s leading fund firms, and receive the latest updated policy on fund industry and fresh insights on the coming trends of China’s QDII product and separate accounts development. Also at the summit, the results of the first China fund holder survey will be published, showing you the investors’ appetite and preference, as well as the most recent industry landscape. It is a MUST-attend event for you to take advantage of the China’s burgeoning fund industry.
