我很高兴向中国绿色公司年会的举办致以祝贺。

　　你们对“全球变局下的责任与创新”这一主题的关注正得其时。

　　如果我们要应对当今世界的一些重要挑战、帮助人们实现其愿望、并履行对可持续发展的承诺，那么企业的行动须提升到更高层次。

　　正如联合国全球契约组织所体现的，企业的可持续发展行动正在继续发挥更大的影响力。越来越多来自世界各地、各行业的公司已扩大并深化了他们在环境、社会、企业治理等方面的政策与实践。

　　然而，许多重大挑战仍然存在。我希望你们都作进一步的努力。

　　如今，气候变化的影响日趋显著，并威胁着我们通过艰辛努力而赢得的发展成果。发展中国家所受到得威胁尤其明显。中国与世界各国在推动低碳、可持续发展方面所做出的努力至关重要。来自私营部门的投资将能极大地促进环境友好行为的推广，推动能效的提高，并发展绿色科技创新。

　　改善你们行动的渠道有很多。如果您还没有这样做，我邀请您加入联合国全球契约组织，并支持其“关注气候”项目——这个项目为商业参与应对气候变化提供了一个平台。

　　我也鼓励你们采用全球契约的“企业可持续发展领导力蓝图”。该蓝图基于十年经验编制而成，为那些希望真正成为可持续发展领袖的企业提供了清晰的发展路线图和行动规划。

　　目前我们正筹备2012年联合国可持续发展会议(里约会议二十周年峰会)，我十分期待你们作为创新者与投资者，将良好有效的解决方案进行规模化推广，从而使更加可持续的全球经济能够成为现实。

　　关于商业如何能够最好地为可持续发展作出贡献，人们曾有激烈的讨论。讨论的内容多集中于技术、创新、公共物品的分布网络与传送方式等等，而对可持续发展本身关注不够。倘若要真正实现企业可持续发展，并推动经济、环境、社会、道德等领域中长远价值的创造，意识到这一点尤为重要。

　　我期待和你们一起努力推动这一进程。公共部门与私营部门的紧密合作是关键。我们都须不遗余力地推动企业可持续发展，创造更加绿色的经济。

　　基于对这种伙伴关系的重视，我衷心祝愿你们的会议富有成效。感谢你们的支持！

THE SECRETARY-GENERAL

--MESSAGE TO ANNUAL SUMMITOF GREEN COMPANIES

　　Qingdao, China,21-22 April, 2011

　　Delivered by Mr. Georg Kell, Executive Director, UNGlobal Compact

　　I am pleased to send greetings to theAnnual Summit of Green Companies。

　　Your focus on “responsibility and innovationin a shifting world” is very timely。

　　New levels of corporate performance are essentialif we are to address key global challenges, meet the aspirations of the world’speople and deliver on the promise of sustainability。

　　The corporate sustainability movement, asembodied in the UN Global Compact, continues to seek greater impact. Growingnumbers of companies from all sectors and regions have broadened and deepenedtheir implementation of environmental, social and corporate governance policiesand practices。

　　Yet major challenges remain and I urge allof you to do more。

　　The consequences of climate change are beingfelt with ever greater force, and threaten to undo many hard-won development achievementsof recent years. Developing countries are particularly vulnerable. Chinese andinternational efforts to promote a sustainable, low-carbon path of development areof critical importance. Private investment has tremendous capacity to spreadenvironmentally friendly practices and to promote greater energy efficiency andgreen technology innovation。

　　There are many ways to improve yourperformance。

　　If you have not done so already, I inviteyou to join the Global Compact and support “Caring for Climate”， the Compact’splatform for businesses that are serious about tackling climate change。

　　I also encourage you to adopt the GlobalCompact’s Blueprint for Corporate Sustainability Leadership. Building on tenyears of experience, the Blueprint provides a clear roadmap and action plan forcompanies to become true sustainability leaders。

　　And as we gear up for next year's Rio+20Conference on Sustainable Development, I will rely on you as innovators andinvestors to bring good and effective solutions to scale so that we can make amore sustainable global economy a reality。

　　There has been considerable debate abouthow business can best contribute to sustainable development. While muchdiscussion focuses quite rightly on technology, innovation, distributionnetworks and the delivery of specific public goods, sustainability itselfrequires more attention. If business were to fully embrace corporatesustainability, and organize itself around delivering long-term value infinancial, environmental, social and ethical terms, this would galvanize thecause。

　　I look forward to working with you toadvance this agenda.  Strong partnershipsbetween the public and private sectors will be central to this effort.  We must all pull our weight to advancecorporate sustainability and create a greener economy。

　　In that spirit of partnership, I wish allof you a productive meeting.  Thank youfor your support。
