He first joined BCG in 1993 as the first local member of BCG China. He has extensive experience working with global and leading Chinese companies in areas of innovation and Intellectual property, and the implications to companies’ strategy and operations to create competitive advantage. His recent work includes ·Innovation process and intellectual property strategy in China for a major global specialty glass, ceramics and life science company, including support to IP negotiation with government prior to a large capital expansion ·Long term strategy for leading European bio-tech and specialty chemicals companies in deterring emerging Chinese competition, including R&D engagements in China across industry value chain and using intellectual property as key competitive weapon ·Global R&D process and organization redesign for a leading consumer electronics conglomerate, resulting from a merger of a Chinese player and the business unit of a global giant ·In-depth study of China’s CRO (Contracted Research Outsourcing) development in the global pharmaceutical and biotech Research and Development ·Strategy development for major Chinese telecom players in China’s self-developed standard of 3G cellular communication and IPTV Mr. Qian is a frequently sought-after speaker to leading companies and high-profile government agencies in China (such as SASAC and NDRC), on topics of globalization, innovation and intellectual property strategy, and corporate social responsibility.
