Mobile phone handset maker Sony Ericsson said on Friday it expected the average price of its phones to come down as it expanded into cheaper segments, though it still had the highest in the industry.

Sony Ericsson, owned by Ericsson and Sony Corp , earlier said its average selling price (ASP) in the first quarter fell to 134 euros a phone from 146 the quarter before.

“We expect ASPs to come down somewhat for Sony Ericsson, but they are still the highest in the industry amongst the top five,” Sony Ericsson President Miles Flint told a conference call.

“That in itself is no bad thing if it is delivering profitable volumes,” he added.
