美国艾默生集团增加中国工程师人数

　　China supplied about half of the 3，000 engineers recruited by one of the world's largest industrial services companies in a recently completed hiring spree， demonstrating the depth of the country's engineering talent and its increasing importance to the expansion plans of multinationals.

　　China was central to the ability of Emerson， the $20bn-a-year US industrial services group， to realise its five-year goal of increasing the number of engineers in its ranks from 6，000 to 9，000 before the end of its 2006 fiscal year， one of the company's senior executives said.

　　“We've been on a real push the last four or five years，” Edward Monser， Emerson's chief operating officer， said yesterday during a visit to China. “In order to reach our growth objectives we had to add 50 per cent more engineers…… You've got to have engineers in China. They fuel the company.”

　　Emerson employs about 30，000 people across 27 manufacturing operations in China， its second largest market after the US， accounting for about 15 per cent of total sales.

　　One of the company's biggest leaps of faith in China came in 2001 when it paid Huawei， a manufacturer of telecoms switching equipment， $750m for Avansys， a power supply business.

　　“We were really helped by the Avansys acquisition，” Mr Monser said， noting that Emerson picked up 500 engineers through the transaction and continued to supply Huawei. “We've benefited from being a key supplier to them. We wanted to concentrate on [network power equipment] and they didn't see it as core.”

　　“在过去四五年，我们的形势非常紧迫。”艾默生公司首席运营官爱德华·孟瑟昨日在出访中国期间表示：“为实现我们的增长目标，我们必须再增加50%的工程师……在中国，你可以找到需要的工程师，他们是公司成长的动力。”

　　艾默生公司在中国拥有27个制造业务，总共雇佣了大约3万名员工。中国市场占公司销售总额的15%左右，是该公司仅次于美国的第二大市场。

　　艾默生公司在中国最大的一次冒险发生在2001年。当时，该公司以7.5亿美元收购了电信交换设备制造商华为旗下的电力供应业务Avansys。

　　孟瑟表示：“我们的确从Avansys的收购中获益良多。”他指出，艾默生公司通过这笔交易获得了500名工程师，并继续向华为公司提供货源。“成为华为公司的主要供应商令我们受益。我们希望专注于网络电力设备，而这个却没被他们视为核心业务。”
