Charity Gala Dinner

The European Chamber's annual Charity Gala Dinner is fast approaching and will be held on the 8th December at the Kempinski Hotel. This is the 6th year that the Chamber has organised the Charity Dinner in association with the EU-China Managers Association, Operation Blessing and the China Charity Federation. The format of the event will be a little different from this year with a band and some dancing after the meal. There will also be the chance to win great prizes such as flights to Europe, short breaks, jewelry and many other prizes that have been donated.

The Charities that will be supported this year are Operation Blessing, the China Charity Federation, Bethel House and Braille Without Borders. All of which run dedicated projects to help improve the lives of the 21 million orphans in China.

Operation Blessing runs several projects with the donations it receives from the Charity Dinner. The majority of the money is used to fund essential surgery for orphans which not only improves their health but also increases their chances of being adopted. Last year 20 orphans received life saving surgery and 20 more received life-transforming surgery. Furthermore, training was provided to 36 caregivers to help them deal with orphans with hearing and speaking difficulties.

Bethel House runs several homes for blind orphans on the outskirts of Beijing. Their goal is to care for, educate and train visually impaired orphans to live and work independently in the future. Braille Without Borders also runs a similar scheme in Tibet where the proportion of blind people is well above the world average. Through this vital training and education these orphans will be able to lead a normal life and integrate into society.

Last year the European Chamber raised over one million RMB for orphans and it hopes to raise double that amount this year with help from our sponsors, ticket sales and through the raffle where fantastic prizes can be won.

Thanks needs to be given to the companies who continue to support this great event through valuable donations. This year's diamond sponsor is BMW. A spokesperson said, ‘As a premium brand manufacturer, BMW is not only dedicated to bring its most advanced product to the Chinese market, but also has a long-term commitment to social responsibility.' Our confirmed Platinum sponsor this year is Nokia with Gold being Airbus and Telefonica.

Please join us for this fun evening that will help to change the lives of orphans in China.
